Over the Christmas vacation, RJ was able to take Parker and Easton on 2 separate hikes through the high desert of Lake Pleasant. Starting from his Sister’s property located west of the lake, the boys made their way through the mountains and washes to the water’s edge where they stopped for a picnic and a short rest before the trek back. It’s 8 mile round trip was a long haul for a 9 and 7 year-old, not to mention, quite an obstacle for an out-of-shape 33 year-old. However, the days were beautiful and the scenery was gorgeous.
The first hike before Christmas also included RJ’s three nephews (Grady, Garrett, and Grayson) whose knowledge of the desert, hunting, tracking, and outdoor survival could rival that of a Discovery Channel documentary. Luckily they all got back before the rain hit the area.
The second hike on New Year’s Eve was joined by our good friends the Hunt’s. RJ’s buddy Greg took his two boys (Carter and Brady) who happen to be Parker and Easton’s best friends.Anything to get the boys out of the house…
Overall, it was a fun adventure in the midst of a great Winter Break.
