June 21, 2010, RJ & I celebrated out 14th anniversary. Though we've been married for 14 years, we've been together for 17 years and have known each other and been friends for 20 years. Man, we are old!!!
Yes, the story that RJ's tells everyone is true...RJ & I were in the same Kindergarten class together. But we didn't even know this fact till we met our Freshman year of HS and a mutual friend brought in a Kindergarten class picture that we both happened to be in. RJ says that I was the little blond headed girl that he had a crush on but I think he may be pulling my leg.
Our friendship really began our Freshman year of HS...RJ & I had Biology together and quickly became close. We dated a couple times off and on in HS but our relationship really blossomed our Senior year. We started dating the start of that school year and were UN-separable till we went away to different colleges after graduation. Then long story way short, we dated on again and off again this first year apart till spring 2005 when we were on again and decided we both needed to move home from school to be together. Anyway, we were married...FINALLY June 21, 1996. (Yes, that's right, I wore a long sleeved wedding dress on the longest day of the year...summer solstice) . I always say we got married that day so we could celebrate our anniversary longer.
RJ & I were laughing the other day, as RJ asked me "When we got married, is this where you pictured we would be 14 years later?" I answered with a smile, "I definitely didn't picture us with 4 boys." Honestly, I can't tell you where I pictured us being 14 years after our wedding day, but as long as we were there together, I was OK with where ever we ended up.
We say to each other all the time (REALLY, probably once a week) how lucky we are to be together. We truly are best friends, always have been. I am so grateful that this wonderful man chose me to stand by his side for the rest of eternity. He is a great example to me and a amazing father to our children. I am blessed to have him!!
