BEFORE TREK...SEE THOSE CLEAN, SMILING MEN
Dark & early Wednesday morning, I drove my sweet hubby up to the church house at 4:45am. He got on a luxurious school bus and headed up north with about 150 or so youth, ages 14-18 for the LDS trek. He was going as a big brother. The youth are divided into families. Each family has a Ma & Pa, a Big Brother & Big Sister, all adult leaders. Then each family has about 10-12 youth.
The trek is 4 days of walking long hours & long miles, up and down rocky hills pulling and pushing a handcarts filled with all their belongings. Each night, each family sets-up a camp which consists on you, a sleeping bag, laying under the stars.
They don't get showers. They don't take make-up or electronics...it truly is "camping." Just like the pioneers did as they came across the plains.
The youth did get to take part in pioneer games and activities. Each activity was related to a spiritual lesson/purpose about Christ.
RJ said it was by far the hardest thing that he has ever done physically but spiritually one of the best experiences he's ever had. He was greatly missed here at home while he was away on this "adventure." But I know he is truly grateful that he got to have this experience with the youth of our stake.
AFTER TREK...SMILING BUT STINKY!!
